More Teacher Appreciation - Canvas Signs!

Happy Wednesday A.K.A. “TEACHER APPRECIATION DAY #3" :). Today I wanted to share a little sign I made for each of my children's’ teachers’ class rooms. I actually entered the one for my son’s teacher into the most recent Paper Crafts “Canvas” call. Obviously, it didn’t make it, but that’s ok - I really like it a lot!

The best part of these projects... CRATE PAPER!!! I was so excited to finally find the School Spirit Collection at one of my LSS' around town. I LOVE this line - SO much! If I was a teacher I’d love to get this as a gift.

What inspired me was Paper Niche's February kit. We got a bit of canvas to play with. I really didn’t use it in my store projects for much, just a few flowers in my New York Mini Book - but I was dying to put this canvas to good use! Anyway, there was also a bunch of chipboard in that kit - chipboard shapes, and letters of all sizes... When I saw the Canvas publication call over at Paper Crafts, this project was born.

For both I started with a piece of shaped chipboard and glued the canvas on with Fabritac. After it dried, I used various sizes of chipboard letters (Maya Road & Kaiser Kraft, I believe) as a mask for misting onto the canvas using Maya (Road) Mist in Red & Orange. After that dried I used a Copic Multiliner to messily trace the letters. I though that added some fun ;).

Next I made the flowers (using THIS tutorial over on the Crate Paper Blog from a while back) - I have to say, this is my new favorite flower - can you tell?!? I also really like the canvas flowers I made (by punching circles with punches & using them as a template & inking their edges w/ yellow & orange Colorbox Chalk). {I distressed the edges of all of the canvas with my Tim Holts Scissors} Then I basically went to town decorating & layering. I finished it off by punching holes with the Crop-a-Dile, setting copperish colored large eyelets, and adding some ribbon from my stash.

Cute little signs if you ask me. I *wish* I had taken a picture of the backs :(. I glued my the kids’ school pictures back there and they both personalized them. Alivia’s was with a finger-painted hand print (& I wrote her name, because she can’t yet) and Christian wrote “To Mrs. Herring, {heart}: Christian Innusa” in his little Kindergarten-boy handwriting :D. THAT has to be my favorite part of them both! No picture though... Sheesh - why do I forget stuff like that??? Kicking myself!
